Day 11 - Eugene, Oregon
Friday, September 26, 2008
From Florence, we drove east into Eugene, a waypoint on our route to Crater Lake National Park. We spent a relaxing day looking around town and visiting a few bookstores. Tyson had his eye on a copy of one of my favorite books, The Brothers K, while I wanted to read American Wife. However, the paperback of The Brothers K cost $17.95, and American Wife is only in hardcover, at $18.95 on sale. We perused the bargain area until we found suitable alternate selections, Tyson’s a book of American short stories and mine the follow-up work by Melissa Bank, the author of The Girls’ Guide to Hunting and Fishing.
Meanwhile, Sawyer now thinks that books are for eating, rather than for reading. He must have misread the name of his special book I used to read to him, “Pat the Bunny”, as “EAT the Bunny”. As of this writing, it has been torn completely to shreds, and thrown away.
